Recipe: Rose-Hibiscus Syrup. 'Beauty'fying and 'Health'ifying.

A slurpy syrup made out of flavorful 'Rose and hibiscus'! Sweet Scarlet! How heavenly does that sound? Trust me, it indeed is.

Roses and Hibiscus are very well known Ancient Indian health tonics. Because both of them are Anti-oxidant, Flavonoid, Mineral and vitamin rich-especially vitamin C. And they are Anti-inflammatory and Anti-depressant too.

And When taken internally, Hibiscus is Anti-Ageing too. Because, it seems to slow down the ageing of your cells. Not just that, it relieves menstrual pain/Hot flashes and aids in digestion.

And as a bonus, Hibiscus has Anti-cancer properties too. It's tea contains "Hibiscus protocatechuic acid" which has anti-tumor and antioxidant properties. A study conducted by the Department and Institute of Biochemistry at the Chung Shan Medical and Dental College, in Taichung, Taiwan suggests that hibiscus slows down the growth of cancerous cells by inducing "Apoptosis", commonly known as programmed cell death.

Awesome right!

Now let me tell you one more Amazing use for this syrup: You can also use this syrup externally i.e., Topically as a skin 'Health'ifying and Beautifying potion! Yes. Have a look at the individual benefits below:

Hibiscus: Has natural saponins that clean the skin naturally. Reverses sun damage. Anti-acne. clears up acne marks.

Rose: Anti-bacterial. Calms Eczema and psoriasis. Soothes dry skin.
Toning.

Sugar: Contains Glycolic acid, which has the smallest molecules among the group of Alpha Hydroxy Acids(AHAs) so is able to penetrate deeply in to the skin and treat acne, blackheads, dullness, fine lines etc.,

Just Mix it with your Face/Body pack and Powder scrub/Ubtan.

Exciting right?

So, let's jump to the recipe now..

Ingredients:
  • 10-12 native Indian Hibiscus flowers. Hybrids don't work as well as these do.
  • 4-6 fragrant Country Roses that are native to India. Again, bland smelling Hybrids don't work.
  • 2 cups of Sugar.
  • 250ml water.
  • Juice of one full or half lemon according to taste.
Procedure:
  •  Seperate all the leaves form both the flowers from their middle pollen containing parts and wash them.
  • Then, Heat the water first. When water becomes really hot, add sugar and boil for 2-3 minutes.
  • Then add the petals and boil for few more minutes.
  • Turn off the stove and let the mixture cool down.
  • After it cools down, add the lemon juice and stir. The lemon juice turns the dark maroon looking liquid to a delightful Deep scarlet/burgundy shade that looks super yum! That's it! Our super flavorful syrup is ready!
Store it refrigerated in clean bottle/container. When stored properly, it stays good for nearly 2+ months.

You can consume it either Hot or Cold.

Cold: Pour syrup up to 1/4th of the glass and fill the rest with Cold or Room temperature water.

Hot: Same procedure as above, but with Hot water.

*During winters, consume the Hot tea version to cure cold, cough, sore throat and headaches.
