Soultree - Licorice Hair repair Shampoo Review.

Hello dears :) How about some nourishing shampoo before the "Hibiscus and Henna hair conditioner" from Soultree?

Here it is: The Soultree - "Licorice Hair repair Shampoo".

Price: 575/- INR.

Now, It now comes in a new packaging which i don't really like!:( The old one was lively and colourful! I agree this is a dark tinted container and it preserves the nourishing ingredients effectively. So, i will have to put up with it. :-/

About the brand:
Soultree is a BDIH certified natural cosmetic brand. They started this brand as a result of the journey that began in 2002. A journey deep into the Himalayas where they discovered communities still living in communion with nature using its goodness and giving back to it in equal measure. This harmonious give and take had an honesty they never quite found in the cities. So, they decided to create truly natural products that resonated responsibility and values.

*All products are certified Natural by BDIH

My Experience:
I first found it and bought it on Naturalmantra.com 3 years ago when i had long hair and was searching crazily for a reasonably priced natural shampoo among a meager number of natural shampoos that existed in India back then.(ya..Rustic art's Aloe shampoo is reasonably priced but, i was fed up with it because it was not suiting my hair anymore. :-/)

It is a very thick gel like shampoo which has to be diluted. Otherwise, you could easily use up 1/4th bottle of it each time. :D

When i used for the first time, i wasn't really pleased with how my hair felt. It was weighed down, dull and unclean. But, from the second time, when i left it longer on hair before washing, i got to see real big difference. They felt super soft, nourished, healthy and had a natural bounce to them.

If you have oily/Normal hair, you do not really need any conditioner with this!

Even my sister who has super dry lifeless brittle curly hair started to see the difference after using this shampoo along with their Hibiscus conditioner. Her hair became more manageable, nourished and soft.

This shampoo has become our collective favorite and will remain so forever! <3

Pros:
  • It does what it says!
  • Nourishes, Repairs and brings back Life to damaged hair.
  • Makes hair really soft.
  • Suits All hair types.
  • Smells pleasant.
  • People with Oily/Normal hair need not use any conditioner.
  • Cleans really well.
  • Does not leave any residue behind.
  • When diluted, foams really good.
  • Priced reasonably.
  • Eco-friendly/Biodegradable ingredients and packaging.
  • Locally sourced Organic ingredients.
  • Cruelty free.
Cons:
  • None.

Availability

Online at: Soultree.in, Amazon.in, Nykaa.com

Offline at: 'The Green path Organic state' store, malleswaram, Bangalore and at most organic/natural product stores in India.

Rating: 5/5! Deserves it. <3

Do i recommend
Yes. Anytime. Because, this is the one among the very few really good natural shampoos in India and also it is sanely priced for all the real benefits it provides.

Review: Rustic Art Celestial Biodegradable Rose shampoo.

Rustic Art Celestial Biodegradable Rose shampoo.

Price: 350/- INR.

Quantity: 200ml.

About the Brand: In their own words: We are Nature Lovers! There is no better way of explaining who we are. They say one should be passionate about the vocation one takes! We did exactly that. We set out to share our love for the environment, in style. With Rustic Art we encourage use of products which are closer to nature, pure and capture the real essence of its ingredients.

We believe in living a life which is free of harmful toxins, chemicals and artificial elements. We define this as rustic! To bring rustic-ness to every aspect of our lives is our constant endeavour. Rustic Art is an extension of our passion towards using environment friendly, nature sensitive products.

Awesome...right!

Consistency: 'Gel'ish liquid which is moderately runny.

Fragrance: Warm and mild rose-geranium fragrance which feels quite soothing unlike the soapy odour of the Aloevera version.

Packaging: Sturdy. Flip cap shuts tight and you can travel with it safely.

The bottle's label design has changed now and i absolutely hate it! I seriously hope that Rustic Art reverts back to their old label design!

What do you think?
Pic taken from Rustic Art's Website

Ingredients: Demineralized Aqua, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Alpha Olefin Sulphonate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Laurydimonium Hydroxypropyl, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Essential Oils of Wild Rose and Geranium, Natural Preservative of OLG, Ascorbic Acid, Cocamidopropyl Betaine.

Ingredient Safety: Safe and non-toxic ingredients. Surfactants used are Bio-degradable. In case you are wondering about OLG, it is nothing but a natural preservative blend of Orange oil, Lemon Grass oil and sesame oil providing broad spectrum bactericidal activity along with a good aroma.

Certification: It is mentioned on their website that they use certified organic ingredients but the product as a whole does not hold any certification.

Eco friendly/Biodegradable: Yes.

Cruelty free? Yes. And it's also Vegan.

Swatch: Refer the review post of Rustic Art Aloe shampoo for the swatch. This one just has a slight pink tinge.

My Experience:
This shampoo performs better regarding all aspects in comparison to their Aloe shampoo. It is more moisturizing and works better with hard bore well water than their Aloe version. I foams like crazy even with as tiny as 2 drops diluted in 1/4th glass of water just like their Aloe version(Multiple surfactants and foam boosters in action here!) And also, it has a wonderful slip just like the conventional silicone based shampoos without actually containing any silicone in it <3.

Don't opt for this if you have dry hair as the multiple surfactants in it will make it more dry and frizzy.

Just as the brand claims, it works best on oily hair. But don't expect soft, bouncy and frizz-free hair unless you have a supply of soft water. For combination hair, post wash conditioner is compulsory if you are using it with hard water. Otherwise, pre-wash oil application is more than enough.

After the disappointing experience regarding the soapy, gag-inducing fragrance of the Rustic Art Aloe shampoo, this Rose version was a huge relief! It smells so soothing that i just scoop some foam out the hair and keep smelling it instead of rinsing it off :P :D

Availability: Available only online at: Rusticart.in, Amazon.in, Nykaa.com, Organicshop.in and many more.

Pros:
  • Soothing fragrance.
  • SLS and Paraben free.
  • Safe, non-toxic ingredients.
  • Removes oil quite effectively. Hence, best for oily hair.
  • More moisturizing than their Aloe shampoo.
  • Makes hair look bouncy, shiny and healthy when used with soft water.
  • Very little quantity required.
  • Wonderful slip. Feels just like a silicone based shampoo while not actually containing any.
  • Budget friendly as it lasts a very long time(because of the slip and foam).
  • Eco friendly and Biodegradable.
  • Vegan and Cruelty free.
Cons:
  • Works well only with soft water. With hard water, it dries out the hair and makes it frizzy(which can be managed with a good conditioner though).
  • Available only online.
My Rating: 3.5/5

My Conclusion: If you have oily hair, have a soft water supply and are looking for a good budget friendly natural shampoo, then by all means, go for it. Otherwise, either be prepared with loads of conditioner at hand or just strike it off your list.

Rustic Art Rejoice Herbal shampoo review

I bought this shampo from Rustic Art after using their Aloe shampoo. Read on to know how this one fared.

Brand: Rustic Art.

Quantity: 200ml.

Price: INR 290.

Ingredients: Demineralized aqua,Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate,Cocamidopropyl Betaine,Alpha Olefin Sulphonate,Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate Laurydimonium,Hydroxypropyl Hydrolised Wheat Protein,Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate,Cynodon Dactylon,Ascorbic Acid.

Swatch:

Consistency: Thick transparent non-runny liquid.

Fragrance:  Soapy earthy herbal.

Packaging: Sturdy. Flip cap shuts tight and you can travel with it safely. The bottle's shape and packaging have changed now and i hate it.

Ingredient Safety: Relatively safe and non-toxic ingredients. Surfactants used are Bio-degradable.

*Cynodon dactylon is nothing but the "Durva" grass which is used during Ganesh chaturthi festival in India. In Ayurveda,Homeopathy and Unani medicine,it is used to treat various health conditions. It is known commonly as "Bermuda grass" in other parts of the world.

Certification: It is mentioned on their website that they use certified organic ingredients but the product as a whole does not hold any certification.

My experience: The consistency of this shampoo is so thick that it is nearly impossible to use it without diluting in water. This one too foams a lot like the Aloe one and here too the credit goes to surfactants and foam boosters used. But,this shampoo did not give me the results like the Aloe shampoo did. This one weighed down my hair and made them look limp, frizzy and lifeless(I did not apply any oil before shampooing). And the same thing happened to my sister too who has dry, frizzy and voluminous curly hair. Cynodon dactylon or "Durva" is the only 'herbal' ingredient used and being the last but one ingredient after that many surfactants and foam boosters, it serves no real purpose in this shampoo.

Pros:
  • Budget friendly.
  • Relatively Safe,Non-toxic and Sustainable ingredients.
  • Cruelty free and Vegan.
Cons:
  • Makes hair limp, frizzy and lifeless.
  • Safety of some surfactants and foam boosters listed are in conflict.
Safety rating: 3.5/5

Product rating: 1/5

My Conclusion: To be honest, i did not like this shampoo. Don't get lured by "Cynodon dactylon" or 'Durva' in the ingredient list.Try their Delight Biodegradable Aloe Shampoo instead.

Have you used the Rustic Art Rejoice Herbal Shampoo? Have you had the same experience or was it a pleasant one? Please share.

Love,
Siri.

Rustic Art Delight: Biodegradable Aloe Shampoo Review

The first review post! ha! finally. :)

Rustic Art is the indian brand i first found when i went all natural with my cosmetic, skincare and bath products 3 years ago. It was a time when the "Natural" buzz had just started to go around in India and there were not many brands in the "Truly natural" category which fit my budget back then. This was the brand i stumbled upon when i was searching for a budget natural shampoo. so, the first thing i bought from this brand was this shampoo. It looked quite promising and budget friendly. So, let's see how it fared.

Brand: Rustic art.

Quantity: 200ml.

Price: INR 290.

Ingredients:The ingredients in the image are from the old bottle. Now, they are different and fully listed.

Here is the new ingredient list: Demineralized Aqua, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate(biodegradable), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Alpha Olefin Sulphonate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate Laurydimonium, Hydroxypropyl Hydrolysed Wheat Protein, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Essential oil Blend, Aloe Barbadensis, Ascorbic Acid.

Swatch:

Consistency: Moderately thick transparent non-runny liquid.

Fragrance:  Mild soapy floral. That's the best i can describe it. I don't like it that much. Thankfully it doesn't linger post washing.

Packaging: Sturdy. Flip cap shuts tight and you can travel with it safely. The bottle's shape and packaging have changed now and i hate it.

Ingredient Safety: Relatively safe and non-toxic ingredients. Surfactants used are Bio-degradable.

Certification: It is mentioned on their website that they use certified organic ingredients but the product as a whole does not hold any certification.

My experience: My hair type is slightly oily with occasional frizziness. And the texture is almost straight from roots with wavy ends.

For the first few times when i washed my hair with this shampoo, the results were jawdropping! My hair was so soft, glossy, voluminous and bouncy without using any conditioner or pre-wash oil application. It did not strip hair off all its oil. I fell so much in love with it that i almost gave it a HG status.  But had to refrain from doing so. Because,  after a while,  whenever i washed my hair they became so frizzy and straw like at the ends post washing and oily at the roots within a day of washing and also it gave me an itchy scalp! I tried pre-wash oil application too but it did not work. Hard bore well water could be the main culprit here because during the first few washes i stayed at a place which had soft water supply and it worked wonderfully.

This shampoo foams so insanely much(multiple surfactants and foam boosters in action here) and the slip is so wonderful that you will not miss SLS and SILICONE even for a split second! Very little quantity is required for a good wash and it washes out fairly easily without leaving any residue behind. Oiled hair requires 2 washes. Oily and non-frizzy hair types don't need a seperate conditioner but dry and frizzy hair types definitely do. I usually dilute it with water. So, one bottle lasted for nearly 4 months with an average of weekly thrice usage.

Ingredient list is covered majorly with surfactants and foam boosters. So, don't expect any therapeutic action from this shampoo. A good shampoo's main job is to clean and this one does that efficiently.

Safety of some of the surfactants and foam boosters listed are in conflict but are relatively safe when compared to their toxic chemical counterparts.

Pros:

  • Budget friendly.
  • Very little quantity required.
  • Works very well with soft water.
  • Cleans hair really well without leaving any residue behind.
  • Gives hair a naturally healthy glossy look.
  • Does not strip hair off all its natural oils.
  • Contains Bio-degradable surfactants.
  • Relatively safe,non-toxic and sustainable ingredients.
  • Contains certified organic ingredients.
  • Cruelty free and vegan.

Cons:

  • Does not work with hard water.
  • May not work for extremely dry hair types.
  • Safety of some surfactants and foam boosters listed are in conflict.

Safety rating: 3.5/5

Product rating: 4/5

Conclusion: With hard bore well water or any kind of hard water this shampoo fails terribly. But if you have soft water supply, then definitely give this budget friendly shampoo a try.

Have you used the Rustic Art Aloe Shampoo? Did it work wonderfully or Did it backfire. Share your experience in the comments below.
